The Department has modern computerized analytical instruments, including electron microprobe (SEM and TEM with EDS), X-ray fluorescence, magnetic susceptibility, liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry, Raman spectroscopy, atomic absorption spectrometry, gas chromatography, carbon analyzer, x-ray diffraction, high temperature/pressure experimental autoclaves and thermogravimeter, petrographic microscopes, sediment transport flume, and thin section equipment. Field equipment includes ground penetrating radar, electrical resistivity, gravimeter, ground-based LiDAR, total station survey equipment, and groundwater monitoring instrumentation, in addition to three vehicles for field activities. Workstations and networked computers and printers are available for student use.
